5 vs 7
This past saturday we played the first place team (we are 2nd) at their place. They beat us the first game of the season. So we were well prepared for everything that they could throw at us. What we were not prepared for were the refs. They were the worse I had ever seen and I mean EVER. Fouls were 42-27. They shot 41 free throws that’s right 41. We had 5 flagrant fouls( 4 of them were flops) and 2 technicals. Before you think i am just saying this because you think I am upset about losing here is one for you the director of officials step-son plays for the other team. Amazingly we were up at halftime but they took the lead in the 3rd and kept it thru the 4th and were up 4 with 1:46 to go and they call an over the back foul on our 4 man(which was not foul) he had the ball is his hand bounces it, he didn’t kick, throw, cuss nothing towards the ref and she gives him a tech. A tech with 1:46 to go in a four point game with the top two teams playing. So they get the 2 free throws from the foul and 2 from the tech to push it to an 8 point game. They get 2 more free throws on the next possession on another non foul to push the lead to 10. Our coach takes the starters out to calm the situation and the refs call a flagrant foul because their guard acted like he had been shot then like a coward runs behind their post player talking trash dancing on his toes like a boxer, at this point both benches clear no punches thrown not even close to being a fight. But the ref (the same ref who called 4 of the 5 flagrant fouls and both technical) writes a report after the game that 5 people (3 from our team) were fighting. Those two refs were the worse I had ever seen but I at least thought they would know the difference between fighting and not. The next time we play a game and the refs determine we will not win let us know before the game so we don’t have to show up…
