About me

RONNIE ALLEN MCCOLLUM II was born December 28, 1978 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Ronnie and Beverly McCollum. He grew up in Fayette, Alabama as the only child to Ronnie and Beverly. Athletic talent runs deep in Ronnie’s family. Ronnie’s cousin is Mike Davis, the former head coach at Indiana, UAB and Texas Southern, the current head coach at Detroit Mercy, who was a stand out player at the University of Alabama. Ronnie’s uncle Cedric Wright was a star defensive football player at Memphis State University (University of Memphis), still ranking in the top 10 in most defensive categories. While as a child Ronnie’s first love was baseball making the all-star team every season he played. ‘I thought Ronnie would play baseball in the pro’s, that was his best sport’ : says Ronnie’s mom Beverly. Ronnie soon found the love of basketball in the AAU summer circuit and baseball fell to the back burner giving the game up completely at the age of 14.

My career

College

Ronnie arrived in Shreveport in August of 1997 at 6’4″ and 230 pounds. So Ronnie quickly learned about college conditioning to trim down to 200 pounds by November. Billy Kennedy, Ronnie’s head coach saw one of the best freshman seasons in his coaching career as Ronnie led the team in scoring with 17.5 points per game hitting 101 three-point field goals which is a Centenary and Atlantic Sun Conference record. Fifth all-time in NCAA history for freshman, Ronnie was selected to second team All-Atlantic Sun and all newcomer team and third team ″All Louisiana″.

In March 1999 Ronnie’s head coach, who recruited Ronnie (who also recruited Jason Kidd, Ed Gray, Sean Marks, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, all NBA players) left for another head coaching job but under his new coach Kevin Johnson, Ronnie picked up where he left off. Ronnie finished his junior season scoring 23.8 ppg (3rd in the Nation), ranked 11th in the Nation with 3.3 three-point field goals made per game and scored 30 points or more in 5 games.

Season 2015-2016

My final season as a player my stats for the season were: 20.2 points 6.3 rebounds 3 assists 1.3 steals per game. I shot 147-268 54.9% from the field, 38-99 38% from 3, 137-149 91.4% from the free throw line. I was also named League MVP, Import of The Year, and first team all league. We finished the regular season 18-8 for 3rd place and we lost in the decisive game in the finals by 1 point. On the coaching side I coached 2 teams the “B team” for my club which is in 4th division and we finished 17-9 for 3rd place. And the U21 team finished with a 30-2 record and were National Champions, Flemish Champions, and Limburg Champions.

Season 2016-2017

My first full season as a coach. My first coaching job was with the team I played on the previous 5 seasons, Houthalen in Top Division 1. So coaching my former teammates was an interesting dynamic. The season before the team made it to the finals but this season we lost 3 starters and with those 3 starters 56 points 19 rebounds 6 assists and 4 steals a game went with them. We finished 15-11 for 5th place and a trip to the playoffs. We were swept in the quarter-finals but a really good season after what we lost. I also coached the “B” team (development team)with all youth players in 4th division and we finished 16-10 for 4th place. With the U21 team we finished 27-4 and for the 3rd year in a row we were National Champions. 3peat
